A blues-rock pioneer, Eric Burdon hit the scene as frontman for The Animals back in 1962. After 10 albums and giant, generation-defining singles like "House of the Rising Sun" and "We Got to Get Out of This Place," Burdon then joined up with funk favorites War; he sang on and produced War's first big hit, "Spill the Wine," and three full albums. Since then, Burdon has consistently worked, collaborating with various players (including Jimmy Witherspoon and Brian Auger), dropping solo albums, touring the festival circuit, and expanding his lengthy acting resume. At 72, he teamed up with Cincinnati garage rockers The Greenhornes, best known as the rhythm section of The Raconteurs. Though just four tracks long and clocking in at less than 20 minutes, this great 12" EP shows a seasoned veteran meeting youthful exuberance, with heavy riffs and charismatic storytelling galore. The Middle Eastern meditation on "Cab Driver" is maybe a little over the top, but all the others are fantastic.
